UK Meteor Radar Project

Hi, have monitored the beacon for many months now from West Yorkshire. 3 element beam and SDR based receiver.
Great carrier and intermittent CW ident.....not many if any meteor echoes? Is there a minimum distance to use the beacon to realise meteor echoes?
As the distance between us and the beacon is fairly close I suspect the `zone` of reflection will be very small limiting the chance of a detection?
Anyone else with short skip distance had any detections? Graves at 1000km is fine with regular meteor trails.

Hi Andy

Close to the beacon a horizontal beam may miss a lot of echoes. I think
you'd see more with an antenna pointing upwards. Even a simple dipole
perhaps end on to the beacon to reduce the direct signal should work.

Echoes should be seen even close to the beacon if the direct signal is
not too strong. Currently I'm seeing an average of more than 2 a minute
